If something is working, the human inclination is typically to leave it as is and not touch it. We’ve all heard the old adage “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. And honestly, we’ve never been big believers in change for change’s sake.
Sometimes, though, the only constant is change itself. Actually, that’s the beer industry in a nutshell – if you tread water too long, people tend to forget about you. It’s easy to get left behind amidst a never-ending avalanche of new products coming to market every week. From new seasonals, special releases, and a huge number of test-batch-sized offerings, there are a TON of options out there to drink both locally and from other markets.
So with that, we’re announcing a couple of changes to DMC’s lineup going forward.
Golden Record
As of today, we are putting the production of Golden Record IPA on indefinite hiatus. “GRec” (as we affectionately refer to it) first debuted in September 2019, and quickly became a no-brainer inclusion in our core lineup. We’ve been overwhelmed with the love and passion that GRec drinkers have shared with us over the past two years. We realize we’re letting you down a little by taking it off the shelf. This is not a choice that we made lightly.
When it comes down to it, we were feeling a little restricted by the parameters of the beer. With so many wonderful hops on the market and with so many new varieties becoming available every year, we found ourselves guilty of some extreme hop-envy. We’ve channeled that envy into making our Nothin’ But The Hops series a full-time endeavour, which allows us room to experiment and get creative with our IPAs. If you’re a Golden Record fan, we hope you’re loving the West Coast entries into that series – the recipe for the base is heavily inspired by that original recipe from 2019.
Of course in beer, nothing lasts forever and never say never. I’m sure you’ll see GRec pop up again in some way, shape, or form. Trust us, we’ll look for any excuse to pour some more of that piney, pineappley awesomesauce.
5:00 World
Originally conceived of as an easy and dare I say crushable (hi Steve!) beer for the sweaty, dehydrated, and overworked among us, 5:00 World has been a summertime staple for us over the past two summer years. To think about how many lawns we’ve helped mow, how many fences we’ve helped paint, how many burgers we’ve helped flip, and how many blogs we’ve helped write – it’s exhausting just thinking about it.
We’ve constantly worked at tweaking this beer and suffice to say that we really never did find our happy place with it. We’ve decided to give 5:00 World the summer off and rotate it out of the seasonal lineup for now. This will come as a disappointment to some, especially Steve’s dad who is definitely the biggest 5:00 World fan that we know. Sorry, Larry!
In its place, we are absolutely thrilled to announce that our Brightwater New Zealand Pilsner will be making a much-requested return to our lineup for the summer. The amount of incredible feedback we’ve received for our brewed-to-11 Pilsner has been phenomenal. It immediately became apparent that we would need to bring it back for another tour once the summer weather hit, so we’re going to do it all over again. Prepare to have your thirst quenched.
While we’re sad that we have to say goodbye to some friends, we think you’ll be happy for the doors these changes open. Let’s raise a glass to Golden Record and 5:00 World going out on a high because, as a wise man once said: “it’s better to burn out than fade away.”
